These cufflinks have a discreet pinecone engraving beneath the surface of the enamel that is only seen on close inspection. One of the most sacred symbols throughout history, the ‘pine’ cone resembles the pineal gland in the brain- the receptor for light. The symbolism in these cufflinks therefore represents enlightenment and refinement as well as a depiction of the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio.
These cufflinks are made with vitreous (or glass) enamel rather than plastic resins. Vitreous enamelling is a traditional skill that can be seen in fine art and jewellery making throughout many cultures and centuries over time. Enamelling takes years of discipline to perfect and was historically employed by masters like Lalique and Fabergé.
Vitreous enamelling is a fading art that is only practised by a few artisanal makers in the world. You can click here to see the traditions of these skilled craftspeople who create these products for us.
